Эта белая тилляндсия с мохнатыми от множества чешуек листьями встречается в Перу и Эквадоре на больших высотах, часто вместе с кактусами. Дождей здесь практически не бывает и растения выживают только благодаря туманам, приходящим с океана. Названная так в честь своего открыва.
